My golden girl
Sings to the stars
With a voice like the winds
And love deep in her heart;

My golden girl
Wrestles with life,
Dreams high dreams
And fights with fire in her eyes;

My golden girl
Whispers at night
To the children she loves,
Guarding their lives;

My golden girl
Has a place that’s just hers
In the depths of her mind
Where the sunshine can play;

My golden girl
Is battered by life
But loves living and joy
And embraces each day.

2011
For my wife, and the spirit within

Curled up like a child
Or a flower unborn,
Hair fanned out across a pillow rumpled and ruffled by your sleep,
The duvet swirls around your form
Like a nest around a bird or hamster,
Snuggling in to eat up what small warmth exists.

The heat of your body glows against my skin
As I slip in beside you.

Here there can be no gaudy misrepresentation,
Only your caress,
As we bask in the precious dawn hours
In semi-slumber.

Dawn snooze with the girlfriend.

I love you when you pick your nose,
I love you when you fart;
A love like this must surely
Be coming from my heart.

I love you when you shout at me,
I love you when you swear;
A love like this must really
Be because I care.

I love you when you’re moody,
Mean that we are close.

The force of a thousand volcanoes hits me on the back of the head,
The world’s as bright as a clean pin,
Sounds are alive.

We were one, not in the moment of meeting,
But in departing:
My loss was the catalyst for change.

Now irrationality tears my head from its moorings -
Pinned,
Trapped,
I move smoothly on the outside,
Roil on the inside.

Mountains move and the moon falls down,
Wind in shadowy trees,
A restless urge and the dragging minute,
Sighs that lead to nothing,
Wild exultation,
Bitter plunging despair.

Wrung out, strung out, worn out,
I rage around details,
Plan great vistas,
Sink exhausted in bed.

Only in sleep does my heart stop jumping
And dreams fill my head instead.

30/07/08

This poem is about falling madly in love, and the insanity of it all.
