WON'T YOU BE MY VALENTINE ?
What a turmoil, what a daring,
What a pitter-patter caring,
Has she got my Valentine,
Am I blessed, is she divine?
What a frightful, awful bother,
Trying to be this Best Girl's lover,
What a waste of bleeding time -
Oh, won't you be my Valentine?
Walking up this blasted road,
Feeling like a dreadful toad:
Her on one side, me on t'other,
Oh, won't you be my dream-girl lover ?
No, she won't, that's plain to see,
As we step out fatefully
Until we stand beside the bus-stop -
She, her friends, and me - the flop.
Oh the pain! And oh the terror!
Getting on the bus together :
Sitting there so manfully,
Trying to keep my dignity.
Whispers, giggles, heavy silence
(I want to do myself some violence)
Someone make me disappear -
Someone stop this dreadful fear.
Oh so lonelye! Oh so proud!
(Wish they wouldn't laugh so loud):
Wouldn't it have been much better
Neverr to have sent that letter ?
Perhaps I should have left my name off ?
Was that her mocking little cough ?
Wish this bus would let me out
Or blow up on the roundabout.
Oh, the hurt of being at school!
Feeling such an awful fool -
Oh, my damaged, wounded pride,
My feeble, messed-up, smashed-up inside.
