Our history is one of exploitation. Our democracy has been bought by creating buffer states between us and whatever enemy we currently have. It used to be communism, now it's terrorism. The buffer states would have have puppet leaders or dictators. Or we'd support dictators in order to maintain the flow of oil or other commodities to our democracies, and never mind the lack of democracy in those places. Ha!
